Maryann
Wakefield, author of A Gentle Sun
Coming, in Serious Condition after Accident
Author Maryann Wakefield fell
in her driveway last Monday. She got out of her car, tripped on her flip flops,
and wound up on the concrete with a serious head injury. In coma since then,
she was moved from ICU into a room yesterday. She’s breathing on her own now and
showing signs of improvement each day. She has a large knot on her forehead and
one eye is still swollen shut, but two days ago she opened the other eye and
told her husband, Larry, that she loved him.
Maryann’s first novel was recently released. A Gentle Sun Coming was available
digitally and the print version was due out early this month. At the last
moment, her publisher went out of business, the e-book disappeared, and plans
for signing parties had to be put on hold. Deer Hawk Publications saw its
potential and immediately acquired it, so A Gentle Sun Coming has a new pub date for September 2015. She
is well into her second book, A Raging
Storm Coming, which she will resume writing as soon as she is able.
This past weekend she was to
attend the annual conference of Ozark Writers League in Hollister, Missouri
until her unfortunate accident landed her in a hospital bed. Everyone there was
shocked and saddened when they heard the news. She was picked-up by Loiacono
Literary Agency when she pitched her manuscript for A Gentle Sun Coming at that very conference two years ago. All
are sending prayers and positive thoughts her way.
We will keep you posted. You
may send her well wishes to annieswake@sbcglobal.net
