When Kade Turner lost her husband and son to a freak automobile accident, she tried to commit suicide and was hospitalized for a year. Daily sessions with Dr. Luke Bradshaw brought her back to the land of the living… and also of loving. Or so she made him believe, as an unexpected and suppressed emotion is kindled and an eternal flame ignited on the night of her departure. She flees to Destin, Florida with the goal of being reunited with her family ‘on the other side’; unable to believe Luke could love a ‘lost cause’ like herself. Instead, she is targeted by a serial killer who sees her as a challenge. Unbeknownst to Kade, her worst nightmare is her next door neighbor; a man who knows her every move and hears even her thoughts.  Will Luke find her in time? Is what they shared strong enough to turn a determination to die into an undeniable desire to live?

Jocko Lee’s long-awaited novel of liberation, love and luck, Glass Wind Chimes, has been acquired!

Jocko Lee’s long-awaited novel of liberation, love and luck, Glass Wind Chimes, has been acquired!

Glass Wind Chimes has been acquired by Front Porch Publishing. It validates your dreams, gives you hope, let's you know that perfect person for you really is out there and that when the will is strong, there is a way.
Based on the life of Robert Cody, this thought provoking, fictional memoir starts out in the late 1990s with Cody working for a master ship builder. While testing one of the ships out on the high seas off the United States Pacific Coast/Vancouver, Canada, he encounters an unusual cloud mass that the local fishermen explicitly avoid; saying people have gone in and never come out. When curiosity gets the best of him, Cody decides to explore and discovers the last known landmass never having been chartered. Not being in any country’s territory, he now claims the island as his own.
Shortly after, Cody goes to Ireland to sign a ship deal for the company he works for and buys an Irish Lottery ticket ‘for the heck-of-it.’ A week later, he finds out he is now the richest man in the world. Thus, he has the funding to establish and settle his country. Little does he know, but North Korea has gotten wind of his island and finds it to be the perfect locale for a base to attack the United States. Cody is the owner and the law…
Lee has done a remarkable job in detailing the complexities regarding such an endeavor and so convincingly that it stirs a great longing to live in the Paradise Islands and cast this harried existence aside. Having spent over fifty years in several professions including being a fisherman, boat owner and working in the shipping industry, his writing is authentic and most believable.
He is currently working on two more manuscripts, Tar Kyler, Time Traveling Mercenary and The Travels of Jacob Spach, a fictional account based on the travels of his grandfather around the early 1900’s.

Unbreakable Will by Lisa Reinhard has been acquired by Front Porch Publishing!!

Unbreakable Will by Lisa Reinhard has been acquired by Front Porch Publishing!!

Lisa Reinhard’s Unbreakable Will is a novel set during the Great Depression. Its main character is Will Handler, a young teen who is riding the rails to escape an unbearable family in Pittsburgh. He quickly finds out that life on the road is not the stuff of boyhood dreams. It is a cold, lonely, and hungry existence. He is befriended by an older man who teaches him the ropes for surviving while camped out in hobo jungles and living out of box cars. Finding that there is no place like home after living with roustabouts and working as a 'hand' in the circus, he ends up saving a man and his daughter in a train accident which brings him face-to-face with the President of the United States.
This is Will’s coming-of-age experience during a desperate time in our nation’s history. It has something to say to us today since we are facing a similar economic crisis. It is a story of grit; of digging deep inside to find the strength to go on; of not giving up.
Unbreakable Will gives important historical facts, geographical locations, and key political figures of that time. This is a true story as it is about her own father. Quite a moving. Reinhard started working on this novel when she discovered her father was dying of cancer. She wanted to see it published before he died. Although this did not happen, we know he is smiling; very proud of his daughter. It is based on his adventures of leaving Pittsburgh when he was twelve and heading for California. She interviewed her father, conducted extensive research into the Great Depression, read dozens of books, watched films of riding the rails, the construction of Hoover Dam, and what life was like during that time and also listened to the music from that era, all of which shines through her words and makes you feel like you are right there. www.lisareinhard.com  Front Porch Publishing www.frontporchromance.com Represented by Loiacono Literary Agency www.loiaconoliteraryagency.com  Release date June 2014 ebook, August 2014 print.

Words from Pep Only Love

Words from Pep

Only Love
For four days he stayed watching, vigilantly waiting for a sign, protecting her body until its spirit might return. For four days he had eaten nothing, considering his beloved’s silence. She was his life, all his life. They had traveled tens of thousands of miles over two decades together. This was her last journey south. Here in the Upper Mississippi Wildlife Refuge on the western Wisconsin border her strength gave out. . . . . . There were previous brushes with death; the sharp crack of guns, near night collisions with tower cables, several battles with fox and mink, reckless, aggressive boats. Once an entanglement with a steel trap had snapped off a third of her webbed foot. . . . . . This fall’s migration had been delightfully beautiful. With others they departed Solon Springs under full moon and for 200 miles followed the silver ribbon below them as the Namekagon and then the Saint Croix flowed into the Mississippi. It was during that first week she began falling behind as the swift southward pointing chevron in the sky fought the predominant west winds. His devotion drew him back from the flock to encourage her until finally together they lost sight of friends and settled on this sand bar near Trempealeau lock number six. . . . . . It was here, in my canoe heading north, that I first saw him standing guard as she rested her head and body against a beached log. Respecting their space and last moments together I paddled out into the current and lodged myself upstream on an old snag. It was clear her final hours were upon them. To honor this sacred scene and the passing of life, I offered tobacco to Gichi Manidoo as is the way of this land. . . . . . Eventually the sun settled behind Minnesota hills leaving an amber sky as I left the snag and paddled north to find camp. Behind me, retreating in the distance, I heard his call rising, pleading her spirit’s return. . . . . . For the next four days my canoe glided through floating fall leaves as life meandered toward winter’s great sleep. Muskrat houses were ready for the cold. Young eagles, already the size of their parents, practiced fishing techniques and hyperactive flocks of mallards, pintail and teal dabbled and dived, storing up energy for their southward journey. Upon my return riding that ceaseless slope toward the Gulf on the back of Old Man River I neared the holy spot of four days previous. There he was. There her body lay resting against the stranded log. I set my dripping paddle across the gunwales and drifted closer. He lifted his head and called in my direction as if declaring, “She has left and waits for me.” With this he ambled down the beach into dark water. Spreading his wings he ran across the surface and with several “honks” became airborne lovingly chasing her spirit. . . . . . In the advancing current of our individual and collective histories it is ultimately only love that calls to us and which we carry with us into the sky.

Front Porch Romance acquires Pathways of the Heart by Diane Yates!

With an ebook release date of June 2014 and print version August 2014, Pathways of the Heart by Diane Yates will make a GREAT summer read! www.frontporchromance.com
Rare is it that you read a ‘novel’ that leaves you in awe of the protagonist; a woman who is the epitome of the Wife of Nobel Character in Proverbs 31:10-31. Then you find out Pathways of the Heart is the true story of a woman, of which we can only wish to be as strong.
In a land where families pray together and stay together…
Married while still teens, Kenneth and Clella lived and loved during The Depression. No electricity, running water or any other necessities taken for granted today, they depended on one another for their survival. Through one trial and adversity after another, ending up in Illinois with the promise of a future of less struggle, Kenneth lands a job with Caterpillar. A restless, insatiable tremor runs through his veins until the day he packs his wife and the youngest of their six children and deposits them in the same cabin they originated just so he could relive his lost youth unburdened.
This is the story of Clella’s determination and several forms of true love: God’s, of oneself, children, spouse and the one person who will never leave.
Based on her mother’s real life experiences, Diane Yates is Clella’s seventh child; born in faith.
Diane is a member of the Columbia Chapter of the Missouri Writers Guild and the Ozark Writers League. Diane's humorous short story "All the Boys I've Loved Before" was published in the 2012 literary works of Well Versed. She is currently working on the sequel to Pathways of the Heart, entitled All That Matters. www.dianeyates.com  Represented by Loiacono Literary Agency www.loiaconoliteraryagency.com

A sincere letter of thanks to Tom Simmons…

A sincere letter of thanks to Tom Simmons…

Below is a letter Tom Simmons received in reference to Escape from Archangel, an enhanced version of “No Honors, No Parades,” the story of Oswald M. “Jac” Smith, found in Forgotten Heroes of WWII (re-released November 2014, Taylor Trade Publishing), an unforgettable compilation of personal accounts of the lives of men and women who served in our Armed Forces during WWII.
WE MUST NEVER FORGET!
***
I came across your book while doing some family genealogy research because of a reference to my Uncle, Captain Trygve Wold, the Norwegian Captain mentioned in the last Chapter, Home. I have many fond memories of my Uncle but he was not one to brag about his exploits at sea, including the story you told of Jac sailing to New York on his ship White Horse. It was fun to read the brief account about the hurricane and the conversations and actions they had during that trip. I can easily picture him at the helm and being so calm under such circumstances. I wish I had discovered your book earlier and could have thanked Jac for telling his story. I have many photos and personal belongings of Uncle Trygve and I am pleased to add your book to the family collection. There was one minor error to the story. My Uncle was born in 1891 and therefore was not 69 years old as mentioned in the story, but that trivial error does not detract from the story. Thanks to you and to Jac for bringing this to light.

Best Regards,
Jim Wangberg, Nephew of Captain Trygve Otto Wold.

Be a PRO

“How do I stay productive? I remind myself that the difference between the amateur and the pro is that the pro doesn’t wait for inspiration or the “right time.””
-Rob Delaney
THIS is marvelous. Janet Sikes, a dear lady I used to work with moons ago, said, "You never "try", you "do"."
"Trying" shows lack of confidence; "doing" shows your character. You can say are a pro at doing dishes/laundry, walking the dog, AT BEING A PARENT! Be the best that you can be at anything you do. I am a pro at lifting those authors up who deserve to be recognized. Oh, yeah, and all the above, too. LOL

Loiacono Literary Agency and Kathleen Rodgers celebrate acquisition!

Loiacono Literary Agency and Kathleen Rodgers celebrate acquisition!

To celebrate the acquisition of Johnnie Come Lately by Coffeetown Press, author Kathleen Rodgers, her husband, Tom, Jeanie Loiacono, her literary agent, and her husband, Robert Loiacono, visited several sites mentioned in the novel.

Portion, Texas was based on Grapevine, Texas; specifically the Main Street areas of the Historic District very close to Grapevine Lake. Turning onto Main from West Dallas Road, it was like going back in time -- all the buildings were older and renovated; quaint, unique shops; lots of people walking. Of course, the weather was gorgeous; an unusual 60+F for a January day.

In future installments, we shall share photos and give tidbits of information concerning the novel. When you “meet” Johnnie Kitchen, you will feel like she is your long, lost friend, and you may even be tempted to visit Grapevine.

Words from Pep The Least of These

Words from Pep

The Least of These
Wind chill crept to -65°F driving cold through the cabin walls. Aspirin sized spots of frost appeared on nail heads of the handmade door and crystalline fractals grew on each pane of glass consuming what little humidity remained. Pine popped, snapped in the woodstove adding its voice to the contracting walls as logs broke free from old chinking. . . . . . Finishing off my supper’s last morsel of fried perch I heard a faint peep. Soon another and another came from outside my window. I quietly scraped away some frost and squinted into the darkness. There huddled together in a row with tiny beaks parallel to the sill were five Nuthatch squeezed against the glass absorbing what heat they could. . . . . . Under the stove I keep a dozen glacial stones to act as a heat sink. Putting on mittens I selected three, set them gently on the shelf under the window and turned down the light. Water soon dripped from the frosted pane pooling near the stones. A sparkle of increasing comfort was clearly reflected from their widening eyes as a waxing moon peeked out from behind the night clouds. . . . . . Through that night, while ice split the trees, I tended the fire and exchanged stones every couple hours for my little friends. They left just before sunrise and the words from long ago came to mind, “Truly I tell you, what you have done for the least of these you have done for me.”

Champagne Book Group acquires Shadows On Iron Mountain by Chuck Walsh!

Champagne Book Group acquires Shadows On Iron Mountain by Chuck Walsh!

Chuck Walsh’s long-awaited Tennessee thriller, Shadows On Iron Mountain, represented by Loiacono Literary Agency www.loiaconoliteraryagency.com, has been acquired by Champagne Book Group, a Canadian publisher www.champagnebooks.com/ with three imprints: Champagne, Carnal Passions and Burst. Champagne Books is an independent small press located in High River, AB Canada. The contract for the sequel, Backwoods Justice, is pending.

Chuck Walsh is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, and discovered a passion for writing in 2004. Since then, he has written human-interest articles for a dozen publications and co-authored Faces of Freedom (featured on Sean Hannity’s book list), a book that recognizes the noble lives of U.S. soldiers who died while fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan. A Month of Tomorrows and A Passage Back have been acquired and are being published by Vinspire Publishing (release dates 2014/2015). www.chuckwalshwriter.com A Splintered Dream, the story of Cape Jeffers, is available for acquisition.

Shadows On Iron Mountain -What happens on Iron Mountain, usually does not leave it -- literally or physically… There is an abductor of women with the tendency to silence them permanently, when he is no longer amused; removing any and all obstacles - human specifically.

Jason and Kara are excited about their romantic, mountain get-away until they arrive at their secluded cabin on Iron Mountain. Although Kara immediately wants to head for a motel, Jason talks her into staying. The first night she sees someone outside the cabin, the next day she goes to the frig to get a drink and disappears without a trace. She is not the first and won’t be the last. Iron Mountain has a rapist/murderer hiding in its depths. Thomas Jordan, a detective from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, is called in to dissect Iron Mountain, if need be, to find Kara. What he finds are mountain people who won’t turn in their own; willing to kill anyone who tries to ascend their fortress, and a mounting number of floating female corpses in Doe Creek.

Walsh holds your unwavering attention from the first sentence and refuses to let you go until the last word, or does he ever let go at all? This promises to be a best seller.

Moving On and Moving Mountains

Moving On and Moving Mountains

It’s 2014. The dead Christmas tree is recycled, the holiday decorations are mothballed and Handel and his Messiah are tucked in. Everything moves on.

Barely ten hours into the new year of 2014 and I’m already a basket case. Why? Like Janus, January’s namesake, I’m looking both ways…a foot in the past, a foot in the future.  I’m conflicted. Moving on is essential.

Every year, the same…drop this, grab that. Which?  Decision is impossible. So what happens? Not much. Easier to wait for deadlines and emergencies. They always arrive.

I check out last year’s resolutions, a ball and chain I hooked myself to. No good intention goes unpunished. All best-laid plans compete with the tyranny of the urgent. I find the list, all ninety-eight of ‘em. It’s written on the back of a church bulletin.

I review it. Success in two. Not bad. I no longer say ‘wuz’ and ‘fixin’ to.’  Not a complete failure. The big one remains, Clean out the garage! It’s been on every list for nine years straight. It’s my mountain to move. It mocks me, the reminder of an old girlfriend I couldn’t shake loose.

Procrastination is the mountain… tomorrow, always tomorrow. My promise reeks of a shallow sincerity. Familiar? I postpone the job and visit my pal, Marvin. Moving mountains needs incentives. I lack even one.

Since his ‘ex’ left, Marvin lives with his dog. He’s the source of amusement and weird wisdom. He rides a bike backwards. Says he learned the trick from Pickrick, a former governor of Georgia. Safer to view life looking backwards, he says…like reading the end of a book first. It eliminates surprises.

Marvin talks a lot to himself and to Brutus, his dog. Claims it’s a consequence of PTSD…post-traumatic stressful divorce. Today they’re playing chess. Bonding.

“Hey, Marvin, whatcha doing?” I ask.
“Reading Scripture, playing chess with Brutus,” he says.

“Dogs don’t play chess,” I say.

“Brutus does. Beat me twice today.” Brutus lies there like a stuffed animal, half asleep, one eye open, disinterested.

     “Explain this insanity,” I say.

“Well, when it’s his move, I ask, ‘Knight or Pawn?’ He looks at me, nods one way or the other.  It’s dog braille. I know the signs. Worked it out with a computer algorithm. Slick, huh?”
Some things defy logic. I skip it and move on. “Is that your Bible? Sorta beat up, I’d say.”

“Gideon. Found it in a fleabag motel. I was hiding from my second wife. Been a Godsend. It helps me move mountains. I give the Gideons money.”

      “Be more specific,” I say.

“OK.  See this verse by Matthew?  Says if you’re a mustard seed you can move mountains.  I felt about as small as one in those days. Pity-party hang-ups. I needed two divorces…my wife and the past. I got both. Now I’m a mustard seed.”

“Do you believe a mustard seed can move a mountain?” I ask with a laugh.

“Amen, brother. Even Brutus can move mountains.” (Marvin proves insanity exists.)

     “Convince me,” I say.

“OK.”  Marvin goes out, moves his pickup by the back door. Brutus jumps up, barks incessantly for ten minutes.

“OK, dude, what are my options here? Beat the dog senseless or move the truck?” Marvin asks. I shrug. So he goes out, moves the truck.  Brutus stops barking. They retreat to the chess table.

“See? No problem. Dogs can move mountains. Even ants can move ‘em. Mountains are relative. Size is irrelevant.” Marvin says, grinning. “What’s your mountain?”

“Haha, cleaning the garage. It’s that or divorce,” I say.

“Listen, for every mountain there’s a mountain mover. If you’re a mustard seed and join MSA, Mustard Seeds Anonymous, you’ll move mountains. Nothing’s impossible for a mustard seed,” he says with conviction.

Marvin and Brutus resume their chess game. I leave. Marvin lives on another planet. Who ever heard of a mustard seed mountain mover? One can’t make this stuff up.

Driving home, the cell rings. It’s Pedro. I answer, “Holla, que pasa, amigo?”

     “Need dinero,” he says.

“Wanna clean my garage?” I ask. I feel both of our mountains begin to move. Maybe there’s something to being a mustard seed after all.

I swing by the pet shelter, adopt a dog named Mac. Someone else’s mountain is moved.

No New Year’s resolutions for me. I’m simply moving on. Mountains will move. Good luck with yours.

This year, I’m gonna teach Mac to play chess. Look out, Brutus!
