The International

For the next few days I feel compelled to share some of the dialogue from the movie The International starring Clive Owen and Naomi Watts. An action/thriller, it posed some very interesting questions and answers to the conflicts the world has faced since the beginning of time; at least since jealousy, greed and corruption. You get my point.
If you have the opportunity to watch the movie, do so. Although, I am prior Armed Services and Law Enforcement, which you get into because your family was/is or live in a delusional world where you think you can make a difference (in reality you may to a certain extent, such as being a deterrent or pawn). Either way it is admirable and honorable to die/put your life on the line for others, especially for those who are unworthy of breathing air/being called human.
To all those who serve, BRAVO!

Umberto Calvini: [In explaining the "true" nature of banking in the world] The IBBC is a bank. Their objective isn't to control the conflict, it's to control the debt that the conflict produces. You see, the real value of a conflict, the true value, is in the debt that it creates. You control the debt, you control everything. You find this upsetting, yes? But this is the very essence of the banking industry, to make us all, whether we be nations or individuals, slaves to debt.

If you kill or imprison one criminal, it is like squashing a mama spider—500,000 come streaming out. The only way to make a change is from the inside-out; soul-ly. — J. Loiacono

The Man Called Brown Condor by Thomas E. Simmons has been accepted for inclusion in the coveted Shakespeard and Company Book Store Library in Paris.

The Man Called Brown Condor by Thomas E. Simmons has been accepted for inclusion in the coveted Shakespeard and Company Book Store Library in Paris. Go to www.shakespeareandcompany.com

Time listed the bookstore as number 4 of 10 things to do in Paris.  Simmons’ friend, Bobbye Carraway, sent the book to Sylvia Whitman (see below).  Ms. Whitman sent Simmons the following card: “Dear Thomas, thank you very much for the kind gift of your wonderful book, THE MAN CALLED BROWN CONDOR.  We will add it to our library so many people can enjoy it.”
Bobbye Carraway (who has stayed at the book store in Paris) said that Ms. Whitman said in effect: “We get thousands of book a year submitted, but only a handful do we place in our library.  This book is wonderful and we will place it in our library.”
Sylvia Beach's Bookstore
Sylvia Beach, an American expatriate from New Jersey, established Shakespeare and Company in 1919 at 8 rue Dupuytren. The store functioned as a lending library as well as a bookstore.[5] In 1921, Beach moved it to a larger location at 12 rue de l'Odéon, where it remained until 1940.[1] During this period, the store was the center of Anglo-American literary culture and modernism in Paris. Writers and artists of the "Lost Generation," such as Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, George Antheil and Man Ray, spent a great deal of time there, and it was nicknamed "Stratford-on-Odéon" by James Joyce, who used it as his office.[6] Its books were considered high quality and reflected Beach's own taste. The store and its literary denizens are mentioned in Hemingway's A Moveable Feast. Patrons could buy or borrow books like D. H. Lawrence's controversial Lady Chatterley's Lover, which had been banned in Britain and the United States.
Beach published Joyce's book Ulysses in 1922. It, too, was banned in the United States and Britain. Later editions were also published under the Shakespeare and Company imprint.[7]
The original Shakespeare and Company closed on 14 June 1940, during the German occupation of France in World War II.[2] It has been suggested that it may have been ordered shut because Beach denied a German officer the last copy of Joyce's Finnegans Wake.[8] When the war ended, Hemingway "personally liberated" the store, but it never re-opened.[9]
George Whitman's Bookstore
In 1951, another English-language bookstore was opened on Paris's Left Bank by American George Whitman, under the name of Le Mistral. Its premises, the site of a 16th-century monastery,[10] are at 37 rue de la Bûcherie, near Place Saint-Michel, just steps from the Seine, Notre Dame and the Île de la Cité.[10] Much like Shakespeare and Company, the store became the focal point of literary culture in bohemian Paris, and was frequented by many Beat Generation writers, including Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, and William S. Burroughs.[10]
In 1964, after Sylvia Beach's death, Whitman renamed his store "Shakespeare and Company" in tribute to the original, describing the name as "a novel in three words".[3] He called the venture "a socialist utopia masquerading as a bookstore".[11] Customers have included the likes of Henry Miller, Anaïs Nin, and Richard Wright. The bookstore has sleeping facilities, with 13 beds, and Whitman claimed that as many as 40,000 people have slept there over the years.[11]
George Whitman died at the age of 98 on December 14, 2011. His daughter, Sylvia Beach Whitman, now runs the store. Regular activities are Sunday tea, poetry readings and writers' meetings.[12]
The four Shakespeare and Company bookstores in New York City, which opened starting in 1981, are not affiliated with the Paris store.
Sylvia Whitman
Sylvia Whitman continues to run the store in the same manner as her father, allowing young writers to live and work there.[12] She started a literary festival, FestivalandCo, which is held biennially at the shop. It has hosted such writers as Paul Auster, Siri Hustvedt, Jeanette Winterson, Jung Chang and Marjane Satrapi.[13][12] She appeared on the Paris episodes of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, which aired the week of August 1, 2011.

Words from Pep Little Finned Spirit Messenger

Words from Pep

Little Finned Spirit Messenger

I shoved my paddle into the stone and headed out from shore. A swell lifted my canoe and I slid down its backside. Last night’s storm had left this inland sea still rolling. Gichigami, the Great One, clear, cold, fierce, intensely beautiful. Gliding past sandstone cliffs I hear the deep drum of surf within their caves, the call of gulls and tern overhead. My spirit is drawn to this water like no other. I have come here to break apart the crust of my heart. For too long my sight has been scaled over, for too long my ears deaf to the love song that gives me power. Without His voice washing the dust from my soul I am but a hollow shell, a dry stick feigning life. From my meek vessel a prayer rises. When will You draw me from the dark abyss to float high above the deep? Why have You turned Your back? Where is Your voice that lifts me? Stroke upon stroke I slip away from shore toward the horizon. The rhythm of paddle pushing water is all that is heard. Onward, outward, unconscious of time, my being is taken until, looking behind, only a thin line on the horizon marks my point of departure. Sky and sea merge becoming one and I feel I am alone in the universe. Alone… Arms aching I coast into stillness, the arch of heaven above, slow gentle pulse of Gichigami below. My hand slips into the chill and as I look down, there near the surface looking back is little giigoozens (minnow). Together we drift, two lives in a vast silence. My little companion moves, nudges my finger and I am lifted by a spark of light in the center of my being. Slowly from my paddle, drops form circles on the water and my soul drinks of the divine presence. The shadow of a cloud moves over my craft and I turn looking for the distant shore. My tiny finned spirit messenger slowly withdraws into the lake. Filling my lungs with the breath of Creator. I am once again at peace. www.theteacherwithin.com

Charity
Each year, Dragon Con selects a different Charitable Organization as the recipient of all funds donated at that year's show. Funds are raised at several charity events throughout the weekend. The 2014 charity is the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and Dragon Con will once again be providing matching funds up to $50,000. Founded in 1979, ACFB procures more than a million pounds of food and groceries each year and distributes it to more than 600 nonprofit partner agencies serving families and individuals in 29 metro Atlanta and north Georgia counties.

Since 2005, Dragon Con has raised over $311,000 for various charitable organizations. Some past recipients have been the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, the Georgia Chapter of the Lupus Foundation, the National Inclusion Project, The National Alzheimer's Association, Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary, and the Georgia Conservancy.

Each guest agreement requests two donations to our Charity Auction. This is your friendly reminder that YOU have the opportunity to make a difference and help us raise money for a great cause. We get a lot of questions on what to donate, so we are happy to provide some ideas to help you: autographed headshots from our Walk of Fame Guests, any show memorabilia they may own (this has brought in *huge* dollars in past auctions), signed artwork, autographed sides (episode notes from shows), autographed scripts, or autographed movie or television promo posters. Want to give something personal that fans would go wild for? Try auctioning off a meal with a fan while at the show. For the authors out there, signed books certainly work, but if you prefer a more creative approach, we've had great success auctioning off Tuckerizations.

Items can be dropped off in VIP Badge Pick Up or in the Charity Auction booth at the Marriott.

The Second Edition of The Final Salute by Kathleen M. Rodgers is now available for pre-order!

The Second Edition of The Final Salute by Kathleen M. Rodgers is now available for pre-order!

The Final Salute, which garnered phenomenal success with its First Edition in ebook and print, has been given new life through Deer Hawk Publications’ Second Edition. Amazon (ebook)
Amazon (paperback) Release September 9th!

The Final Salute
At a small air base in Louisiana, family man and seasoned fighter pilot, Tuck Westerfield's life could literally crash down around him. In this business of flying fighter jets, the odds of staying alive are stacked against him.
Haunted by the memories of dead friends killed in air mishaps, this Vietnam vet and father of three must deal with a devious commander, an animal-crazed neighbor, whose husband hates pilots, a beautiful, but suspicious wife and a rebellious teenage daughter. The last thing he needs is another war.
But when Iraq invades Kuwait in the middle of a muggy Louisiana summer, duty calls. Tuck and the other pilots in his squadron head to the Middle East.
Back in Louisiana, Gina Westerfield and other military wives learn that war is hell on the home front, too.
Later, when tragedy strikes, everyone at Beauregard Air Force Base must pull together and live on or forever be consumed with grief.

As her debut novel, The Final Salute, (Leatherneck Publishing, 2008) was selected in 2009 by Army Wife Network as their July book club pick and Military Writers Society of America awarded it the Silver Medal. In 2010, USA-Today, The Associated Press, and Military Times ran stories about the author’s sixteen-year journey to bring the novel to life. The novel soared to #2 on Amazon’s Bestselling Military Aviation paperback list. In 2011, Navigator Books released the Kindle edition and the novel hit #1 on Amazon's Top Rated War Fiction the following year. So far it has garnered over a hundred reviews and sold over 6000 ebook copies.

Rodgers next novel to be released is Johnnie Come Lately (Camel Press, February 1, 2015 ISBN: 978-1-60381-215-3) and she is currently working on its sequel, Seven Wings to Glory.

“Kathleen M. Rodgers' The Final Salute is a moving, compelling story of military life, yes, but of so much more. Rodgers writes with insight and knowledge of military life and just enough solid, factual detail to enthrall me, to make me feel as if I am experiencing that walking-the-perilous-edge along with the main characters. But it's the heart-tugging emotions that she weaves through the story that alert me to what a spellbinding storyteller she is. Ultimately, her tale is a realistic yet heartwarming and reaffirming assessment of life and love and dedication by the very people who guard our own lives.”

Parris Afton Bonds, New York Times bestselling author of Deep Purple & cofounder of RWA
“A Captivating Tribute to Our Heroes in the Sky”
“There are not enough positive adjectives in the English language to describe what an incredibly fulfilling and beautiful story Kathleen Rodgers has placed within the pages of this unbelievable book. Having just completed it, I can only describe the dichotomy of emotions I feel right now as those of both pride and loss pride for the years of military service I contributed to our great nation, and loss as I bid farewell to the enigmatic characters Rodgers has given us in Tuck, Gina, and the many others who bring this tale to life and make it dance on the page right before your eyes. Many have “told” readers countless stories of our brave men and women in uniform and the numerous sacrifices they make for us as they struggle to balance duty to country with duty to family; but Rodgers is one of the elite few who is able to make you “feel” their plight, their emotional battles, their physical pain, as well as their joy.”

Amanda Matti, author of A Foreign Affair

USA Today ~ Air Force wife's novel set at fictional England AFB.

Military Times ~ The Final Salute: Giving voice to these ghosts.

Mobile, Alabama Press-Register ~ Rodgers has created richly layered characters that compel readers to keep flipping the pages.

Midwest Book Review ~ I recommend this novel as a good description of the military life and the inner works of the way things are done, including the cover-up process.

Fort Worth, Texas Magazine ~ Until the very end, readers are intrigued by her colorful cast of characters that bring everything from love to betrayal amid the added struggle of military life.

The worst movie out there -- Noah with Russell Crowe

I think that Noah has to be the worst movie about the Bible I have ever seen. From the very beginning it was NOT Biblical, did not even follow what Genesis says. So disappointed that a fine cast like Crowe, Hopkins and Connolly would stoop so low as to be blasphemes. Angels are NOT discombobulated rock formations, the earth was never described as such and where in the world did they get firearms back then. To make God's word a sci fi is ludicrous.
Do not waste your money!!!

Black Opal Books has acquired Michael Infinito’s two novels: In Blog We Trust and The Hanging Tree! Michael Infinito, hailed as the next Stephen King!

Black Opal Books has acquired Michael Infinito’s two novels: In Blog We Trust and The Hanging Tree!
Michael Infinito, hailed as the next Stephen King!

Infinito’s historical, paranormal novel The Hanging Tree is a fast-paced ghost story that chronicles the histories of two post-Civil War American families and their struggle to break free from the stigma of slavery. Divided by race, their separate journeys over several generations are thrilling, suspenseful, triumphant, and sometimes tragic. The Hanging Tree will have you crying and cheering at the same time, and may just cause you to sleep with a light or two on at night.
When South Carolina Plantation owner Samuel Worthington liberates his slaves, he offers them some land in exchange for their continued service. His best worker, Jeffrey, accepts the deal and begins building a life for his freed family.
Upon Samuel’s death, everything changes. His son, Jake, alters the agreement, setting into motion a destructive pendulum that swings relentlessly for generations to come. Inhabited by ghosts of a dead rice plantation, the fertile land serves as a battleground in the war between greedy, ruthless men, and the spirits of its rightful owners. You’s on my land.
Two plantation families, both torn apart by injustice and bigotry, branch out away from their roots and struggle to make it into the early twentieth century. Through World War I, Prohibition, and the modernization of America, the South Carolina land and its ghosts remain common ground in a prolonged chess match between the two clans. Unfortunately, neither family can ever fully prosper unless all the stray pieces find their rightful place and balance is restored, but justice proves elusive in the shadow of America’s darkest social blemish.

In Blog We Trust keeps you on the edge of your seat with your jaw dropped and question marks flickering around in your head with every turn of the page.

Throughout history, people have sold their souls to the dark side in order to make their selfish wishes come true.  With the dawn of the internet age, the ritual continued.  Rock stars, race car drivers, and even politicians found their fame and fortune with the help of a new and mesmerizing website. The only price they paid for the use of its services, and all the fame and fortune they asked for, was a gruesome death, which occurred one year to the day after they had made their requests.

When Carrie, a frustrated housewife, logs onto the blog and enters her under-duress comment of, “If you want to make my life better, then you should just kill my husband,” a chain of events begins to unfold that no one could have ever predicted. She is the only one who has put two-and-two together; trying to contact other bloggers to explain and to warn them before it is too late for all of them. Falling in love with one of the victims was not part of the plan. Both were going to die, but there had to be a way…

Black Opal Books, who acquired his novel XXXtreme Discretion just two months ago, saw his phenomenal talent and could not let him get away. www.blackopalbooks.com
And…12:19 (MuseItUp Publishing, 2013) will soon be released in paperback. Author of over a hundred short stories, and an award winning poet, his books have received heavy praise from readers. A resident of Coastal North Carolina, Michael is continuously adding to his list of works. www.michaelinfinito.com www.wizardofotin.blogspot.com Represented by Loiacono Literary Agency www.loiaconoliteraryagency.com

Y’all get ready! Shadows on Iron Mountain by Chuck Walsh will be available on ebook September 2nd!

Y’all get ready! Shadows on Iron Mountain by Chuck Walsh will be available on ebook September 2nd!

What happens on Iron Mountain, Tennessee usually does not leave it—literally or physically. There is an abductor of women with the tendency to silence them permanently…when he is no longer amused; removing any and all obstacles, human specifically.
Jason and Kara are excited about their romantic, mountain get-away until they arrive at their secluded cabin on Iron Mountain. Although Kara immediately wants to head for a motel, Jason talks her into staying. The first night she sees someone outside the cabin, the next day she goes to the frig to get a drink and disappears without a trace. She is not the first and won’t be the last. Iron Mountain has a sadistic bastard hiding in its depths.
Thomas Jordan, a detective from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, is called in to dissect Iron Mountain, if need be, to find Kara. What he finds are mountain people who won’t turn in their own—willing to kill anyone who tries to ascend their fortress—and a mounting number of floating female corpses in Doe Creek.
Walsh holds your unwavering attention from the first sentence and refuses to let you go until the last word, or does he ever let go at all?
A graduate of the University of South Carolina, he discovered a passion for writing in 2004. Since then, he has written human-interest articles for a dozen publications and co-authored Faces of Freedom (featured on Sean Hannity’s book list), a book that recognizes the noble lives of U.S. soldiers who died while fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan. His other works, A Month of Tomorrows and A Passage Back (Vinspire Publishing) will be released 2014/2015. The sequel to Shadows on Iron Mountain, Backwoods Justice, will be release by Champagne Books in 2015 as well. When actress Catriona Benedict is approached by Miles Kingston, it is much more than admiration for her work…it is the audition of a lifetime.

Murder, forgeries, burglaries, stalkings, and the sacrifice of her one true love. What else must she do playing Mrs. Kingston?

The Irish Banshee by Jeanne Charters

The Irish Banshee

In Shanty Gold, Mary Boland is transformed into a Banshee by Kamua Okafor, her friend who is the son of an African witch doctor. He uses simple kitchen items to turn her from beauty to monster.
From what I can tell from research, Banshees are sometimes hideous, sometimes beautiful, sometimes young, sometimes old. The one constant in their existence is that they are always female. Oh, and that they always wail you to death if you’ve ticked them off.
Banshees have existed in Irish lore since ancient times. In 1437, King James of Scotland was approached by an Irish seer who was later identified as a Banshee. She foretold his murder at the instigation of the Earl of Atholl. There are records of several prophets believed to be incarnate Banshees attending the great houses of Ireland and the courts of local Irish kings.
At times, Mary Boland actually wonders if she might be a Banshee. She has a fearful temper and will fight to the death if someone she loves is threatened. Also, according to legend, Banshees emanate one of four great houses—the O’Gradys, O’Neills, O’Briens, and O’Longs. Mary Boland knows her maternal grandmother was an O’Brien.
So was Mary Boland a Banshee or the Celtic Goddess her father always called her?
Or was she, like most women, a kind and benevolent Goddess who, when provoked, could turn into a frightening virago? When you read Shanty Gold, you be the judge. www.jeannecharters.com
