Kathleen M. Rodgers Visits Former England Air Force Base (setting
for THE FINAL SALUTE)
On our way to my
husband’s high school reunion in New Orleans, Tom and I stopped by the former
England Air Force Base in central Louisiana, the setting I fictionalized in my
novel, THE FINAL SALUTE. When the base closed in 1992, the city of
Alexandria took over the complex.
We visited with Jon W. Grafton, Executive
Director of England Industrial Airpark & Community. In this photo, Jon and
I are standing in front of an aerial photograph of the base in what had been
the wing commander’s office in the old headquarters building.
In the second
photo, I’m standing in front of the old base chapel…the sight of a climatic
scene in my novel. Front Porch Reads will republish THE FINAL SALUTE in
e-book July 2014 and print September 2014.
