Words from Pep
Every now and then the hand of humankind upon the planet strikes me as so destructive I see little hope for the future. I'm in one of those moods, thus the following - - -

I will tell you up front, depending on your perspective, this may not be an uplifting post as are most I write. That being said - attune your ear! . . . . . Within humankind resides an astounding characteristic. We have called it love, and tagging close behind comes compassion, empathy, kindness, humility, self-sacrifice. The fallout of these tangible attitudes is peace and wise behavior. Our species, so we tell ourselves, is capable of divine action. I have no argument with this potential, but I have to present an observation:  Swimming in our sea of affluence we have lost our love for the earth and thus wise behavior. There is no limit to our consumption. Unless we control our selfish appetite, planetary ecocide may take only a few decades to unfold, and is undeniably the future for our children. Believing otherwise is to live in denial. Missionaries of materialism baptize the world in the name of over production and over consumption even as the tide of extinction rises. . . . . . I admit that much of my life has been hijacked by the false gospel of consumerism. The point of existence is not material acquisition. The point of existence is to grow in understanding the love that fills this planet and encircles us within the benevolence of the universe. The point of existence is to discover and liberate this divine love within yourself for humanity and creation to see. This is what radiated from Jesus and made his life so impacting. “Consider the lilies – Contemplate the birds of the air – It is not possible to serve God, to be alive in the Spirit, and yet focused on the wealth of this world.” The truth of his voice is there for all to experience. . . . . . Take stock of your wealth. How much is enough? Are you willing to sacrifice more of the point of your existence for that “which moth and rust destroys”? Resist the dominant paradigm, the diseased idol of Affluenza. “Lay up treasure for yourselves” in love, empathy and kindness. Breath out thankfulness to our Mother for what she has given and to our Creator for the experience of existence. Only by this will creation be allowed to heal. Only by this will true wealth be known by all.
